Is There Room for You in the Life You’ve Built?

On health, wellbeing, and the first pause that makes intentional living possible.

You can love the people in your life, take pride in what you’ve built, and still wonder: Is there room for me in all of this?

That question has stayed with me through many chapters of my own life. It has also been present in the conversations I’ve had with women over the years.

 What I’ve learned by listening

I’ve heard women speak with love about their families, their work, and the people who depend on them. I’ve heard pride in all they’ve accomplished. And I’ve heard how easily a person can become practiced at noticing what everyone else needs while giving little attention to her own life.

Sometimes, all it takes is a little room to talk. Someone remembers an interest she set aside. Someone realizes she wants to use her time differently. Someone leaves with a question she isn’t ready to answer yet.

I’ve learned to value those moments. A question can stay with us long after a conversation ends. It can help us notice a choice we hadn’t seen before.

While many of the conversations that shaped my work have been with women, the invitation to pause and pay attention belongs to anyone who recognizes themselves here.

The first pause

My work has long been rooted in health and wellbeing. I used to think about those words in terms of what we do to care for ourselves. I still do. But I also think about what happens before we make a choice: we notice.

How am I feeling? What has been taking my energy? What helps me feel present? What keeps getting pushed to “later”?

A pause gives us a chance to hear the answers. From there, we might choose rest, movement, a conversation, a boundary, or more time with someone we love. Intentional living takes shape in those ordinary choices.

Why I keep creating

My path has taken me through military service, education, coaching, writing, and speaking. Across those experiences, one purpose keeps returning: helping people include themselves in their own lives.

In Defining Your Greatness, I shared moments from my journey as reference points for readers considering their own. In The Path of Finding Yourself, I offer questions, stories, and space to reflect on the life you are living and the person you are becoming.

That same desire is behind my Intentional Living gatherings. I love making room for people to explore a thought aloud, listen to one another, and leave with something meaningful to carry into their day.

The world I want to help shape

I want to help create a world where we make room for health and wellbeing in the lives we are living now. Where we can ask honest questions about what matters to us, listen with care, and make our next choices with greater awareness.

I contribute through writing, speaking, and bringing people together. I’ve seen how a conversation can travel beyond the room where it began. We carry it into the way we care for ourselves, the way we meet others, and the choices we make next.

That is why I keep returning to the pause. It gives us a place to begin.
